GiliSoft Video Editor is mainly intended to convert between video formats. Moreover, it also allows some basic editing actions as well as extracting audio from video. The program has an intuitive interface, similar to those of other conversion software. Therefore, you will hardly have any difficulty using it. Although it allows batch processing, it does not help you in this process because you can only add individual files as importing complete folders is not supported. In relation to the range of allowed sources, this tool may be lagging behind other applications that already allow importing DVD sources and even downloading Internet video. Luckily, it supports practically every existing video format as input. Once you have added the files, you can preview them to check their contents and take snapshots of selected scenes.
Various editing actions can be performed on the videos. You can trim a video by marking the initial and final times of the segment to extract. Similarly, you are allowed to crop the visible region of the frame to exclude unwanted elements. Fortunately, it allows you to embed subtitles from external files and you can even customize the font and position. Other actions, such as watermarking, rotating and adjusting picture parameters are also available.
The program supports an impressive array of target formats. In order to ease the difficult task of configuring output parameters, multiple profiles are available. It is very easy to find a supported format because they are organized according to the type of intended device. However, if you find that the available profiles do not meet your exact needs, you can always customize them at will. Unfortunately, although you may save the changes to one of the existing presets, no new profile can be created.
In general, GiliSoft Video Editor is an excellent application. However, although it is true that it supports a set of editing functions, it is a format converter rather than editor. Therefore, do not expect it to let you carry out sophisticated edition procedures.
