The following review written by one of the Software Informer contributors applies to version 8.6
GiliSoft Video Converter can convert your entire video collection into any of the supported codecs in just three simple steps. Alternatively, you can take two quick extra steps to add a creative video effect to your input files and to customize the selected output profile.
The program comes with an oversized video player for you to preview any of the files on the conversion list.
The entire conversion process is simple and straightforward. Once you have selected and verified the right video files, you can choose one of the many output presets provided, which have been clearly classified by codec (common video and audio, HD video, online video, etc.) or by device (iPod, iPhone, HTC, BlackBerry, Tablets, Game Hardware, etc.). Regrettably, the profile you select from this box will be applied to the entire conversion list, so you will need to launch different conversion tasks for every output required. Some of the settings in these profiles allow for customization, so that you can personalize (and even leave out) the audio and video streams that will conform the resulting file.
Though not a compulsory step on the conversion process, you may want to stop and visit the program’s video editor. Together with all the usual suspects – crop, cut, watermark, rotate, and add subtitles – you will find a nice set of video effects that not many similar tools care to include. Thus, you can add a black and white, negative, glow, motion blur or old film effect (among others) to your source video files to give them a more personal touch. The results will surely surprise you. Actually, with a price tag very similar to that of its competitors, it is things like a list of creative video effects that sets tools like this apart from the rest of video converters. If only for this feature, GiliSoft Video Converter is a program worth trying.
